Treatment - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Have you ever experienced sharp pain that running down the wrist of your hand while typing on keyboard? Or probably after prolonged use of your handphones, or gaming in front of your computer? You may just develop a Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a condition that occurs when the median nerve, which runs from your forearm into the palm of your hand, becomes compressed or squeezed at the wrist. This compression leads to symptoms such as pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand and fingers. For this case, our therapists will understand the issue and treat it from the root cause of the pain most probably around cervical area.

Our hands-on physiotherapist will use Bowen techniques to address tightness and tension in the muscles and soft tissues surrounding the carpal tunnel. By releasing adhesions and reducing muscle tightness, this technique can help relieve pressure on the median nerve and alleviate symptoms of pain and numbness.

Treatment & solution

  • Joint Mobilization

is used to improve mobility and alignment in the wrist and surrounding joints. By gently mobilizing the bones of the wrist and hand, manual therapists can reduce stiffness and improve flexibility, which can help reduce pressure on the median nerve and improve nerve function.

  • Nerve Gliding Exercises

For home exercise, our therapists will prescribe custom exercises designed to gently mobilize and stretch the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel. These exercises, known as nerve gliding or neural mobilization exercises, can help improve nerve mobility, reduce compression, and alleviate symptoms of tingling and numbness.

  • Postural Education and Ergonomic Advice

We will provide education on proper posture and ergonomic principles to help reduce strain on the wrists and hands during daily activities. They may offer recommendations for workplace ergonomics, such as proper keyboard and mouse positioning, as well as techniques to minimize repetitive movements and excessive force on the wrists.

  • Strengthening and Stretching Exercises

Specific exercises may be prescribe to strengthen the muscles of the forearm and hand, which can help support the wrist and reduce strain on the median nerve.
